Language learning strategies used by Indonesian learners in IELTS

This study investigated the frequently used language learning strategies (LLS) by Indonesian learners in English for a high-stakes exam, IELTS. In addition, differences LLS use among participants with different proficiency were examined. Using quantitative approach, data collected using an online survey utilizing Oxford’s Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) as instrument. Sixty-one adult who had taken IELTS involved this study. Their score indicated their levels. Data analysis was carried out Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS). It descriptive to find frequency and independent samples t-test see based on proficiency. The findings revealed that various most metacognitive, followed cognitive, compensative, social, affective, memory strategies. Meanwhile, showed difference not noticeable. Reflecting results, it is proposed teachers Indonesia may start growing learners’ awareness of benefits teach them properly
